I have two sons that don't live with me full time and I am really not in control of their diets...My ex-wife feeds them shit all the time and you can look at both of them and tell!!! Hmmm great topic. Well, my son has 3 food groups: mac and cheese, chickn nuggets and pizza. HOWEVER, I enforce a daily multi vitamin and he only drinks water. I never introduced him to juice and soda. So he really never drinks it. He is 7, so basically he is old enough now where I am beginning to educate him on healthier eating. Just last week, he decided he like turkey bacon. Not that turkey bacon is very healthy, but it is a better choice. Children will be children. When they are with you, try to take some time and educate them. If you live near an organic food market, take them on a tour there. Or try making a healthy dinner with each other (keep chicken nuggets on hand - lol). As well as take them to museum to learn about their body. I live near Philadelphia so I have been able to take him to an exhibit they had there on the human body and it's organs. 2 weeks ago, I bought "The Anatomy Coloring Book". Actually bought for myself, cuz I am studing for my personal training cert. and to my suprise, my son joined in and is coloring and learning with me. Sorry for such a lengthy response, but your question hit home...best wishes. Parenting is the hardest job on earth!

I don't have any children of my own, but I have been working with kids in one manner or another for the past 10years. I incorporate a healthy diet with them always. No fastfood or any junk. Once in a while I will allow a cookie, but most of them now don't like sweets or cookies. I eat healty and semi-clean so it's easy for me to make sure the kids in my care eat the same way. It's when they are around the parents that things are different. They tend to go for ease and convenience, which equate to an unhealthy diet. I also have them play outside, stay active as much as possible. I have seen kids get tired after playing outside after 10min, complain that it's hard walking for an extented period of time, ect. It's a shame and disgusting what happens when parents don't recognize how important a healthy lifestyle is for their kids.

Do either of you think that cooking at home is more of the reason for unhealthy children or do you think its just society and the norm? Men and women don't seem to take the time to cook meals at home anymore, 'I guess it because we are so busy', but is it? Are we as a race becoming so lazy that we don't want to "try" to eat good? Don't people realize that our children are going to be taking care of us when we are old and if they are unhealthy now, will they be around to take care of us??
Im just full of questions this morning...? lol....

In todays rat race it has become hard for parents to find the time to spend with their children, let alone cook a meal when they get home from work. Therefore they opt for take-out or frozen meals(which is infinitely worse). The parents are setting the children up for health issues, they just don't realize it. To them if there's a vegetable in the meal then they've done their job in giving them a balanced meal. Also kids have all these "toys", which keeps them inside, so going outside and getting some fresh air has become null and void.

It's a different world then when my parents raised me. It takes 2 incomes now really to make ends meet and we all work and play at such a fast pace. I do eat out a lot, but you can eat out very healthy. It's all about choices. Really, I have no problem asking the wait staff to specialize my food.

A little candy is ok...Really almost anything in moderation is ok....Its when that 'bad' thing becomes your whole diet!!!

don't have kids, but if I did I would train them to eat the weaker kids and steal their souls...
seriously though it has to be controlled at home and by the parents early. The lessons we learned early in life stay with us. How many of us hated to eat vegetables when we were kids and now it's one of the main items on our plates.

True statement about the veggies!!! It is really a shame that the world is so fast paced now...We have such wonderful toys we all could be enjoying.....There just isn't enough time in the day to do that!!!
